The Future Of Implanting False Memories

The possibility of implanting false memories in the minds of other people, manipulating their way of reacting from a particular memory that has been Machiavellically modified. The fact of creating an alternate reality between your thoughts , and that this is the starting point to restructure your psyche. All this sounds unreal, an extract from some science fiction movie, but perhaps in the future it will cease to be, especially when experiments are being carried out in this regard.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology discovered a few years ago that memory is stored and distributed individually in neurons. Using that as a basis, they have been able to implant a false, fear-producing memory into the brain of a laboratory mouse.

The method used by the researchers, and specialists in neuroscience, consisted of identifying the brain cells that were associated with a specific memory , and from which they were able to force and alter the stored memory, causing the mouse to remember something that it had never had before. happened.

The technique the scientists used to conduct the experiment involved principles of ontogenetics. They first used a virus to infect the rodent’s neurons, thereby making them more susceptible to light. Then, through a rhythm and sequences of lights controlled to the millisecond, used as a trigger mechanism, they were able to generate the false memory.

To test the experiment, the mouse was placed in a chamber where it received electric shocks from the ground, then it was put in another similar chamber, but without the electric shocks involved. At that moment, the false memory was transmitted to the rodent, through a blue light that had the memory encoded. The result was the mouse petrified with fear, assuming it was in the electrified chamber.
